The Mailander Gruene Drache whetstone is a natural stone, medium grit and very soft. One side is smooth and flat so you can use it for sharpening knives. The other side is riven, rather than sawn so is not used for sharpening. For sharpening scythe blades, you use the curved smooth sides. It is a useful stone for honing the blade in the field.
