This natural whetstone is made in the Saurat valley, at the foot of the Ariège Pyrenees. It has been made by the last French whetstone manufacturing company to obtain the living heritage company label.
These natural stones are extracted from the mountains and are then entirely shaped by hand. First they are cut to the desired dimensions, then washed several times under a powerful jet of water in order to remove the stone residues. Then they are placed for an hour in a tool called “the cradle” which polishes the stones in a pendulum movement to reveal their exceptional grain.
They are described as a semi-hard stone, polished in the cradle.
We recommend using your stone wet.
The stone does not require any special maintenance although you can occasionally wash it in water with a little detergent.
